Melville Chadwell was a widower. He was born in 1866 in Tennessee. He was 51 years old. His father Thomas Chadwell and his mother whose maiden name was Mary A Childress, were also born in Tennessee Melville Chadwell was a railroad mail clerk employed by the NC&StL Railway. He went on duty in Nashville at 6:20 Am. At the time of collision he was sorting mail in the first car behind the engine #282 in the combination mail and baggage car. According to NC&StL surgeon, Dr. Duncan Eve Jr. Melville Chadwell died of internal injuries and shock at 7:15 A M. Melville Chadwell had a relative, named Ewing Chadwell who lived in ashville. Melville Chadwell was buried in Nashville Tennessee at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on July 10, 1918.
